Our origin

A research question became a company with a practical purpose.

Roshan Water was incorporated in 2017 as a University of Alberta spin-out, carrying water-quality research toward a portable testing workflow.

Then2017

Research becomes a company.

Co-founders Parmiss Mojir Shaibani, PhD, and Amirreza Sohrabi, PhD, brought their University of Alberta research experience together to establish Roshan Water Solutions.

NowPortable microbiology

Science, hardware, and workflow meet.

Today, the multidisciplinary team works across sensing, product development, field usability, and operations. VeloCens™ is the company’s portable platform for quantifying E. coli and Total Coliforms in about one hour.

Explore carefully, claim clearly.

Roshan Water continues to consider how its platform may support additional water and environmental questions. Those areas remain research direction unless and until they are validated and made available.

How Roshan works

Built around the distance between a sample and a decision.

Roshan Water treats portable testing as a connected experience—not a single instrument in isolation.

01

Quantify a defined target

Start with a specific question. VeloCens currently focuses on quantified E. coli and Total Coliform results.

02

Design the whole field workflow

Consider sampling, test cartridges, guided operation, results, and records as parts of one practical system.

03

Keep evidence and judgment together

Make information available sooner while respecting established water-quality programs and professional judgment.

Roshan Water embraces diversity and inclusion as a source of strength.

Parmiss Mojir Shaibani
Co-founder & CTO

Parmiss Mojir Shaibani

Parmiss earned her PhD in Materials Engineering from the University of Alberta, where she focused on water-quality monitoring and developed a portable bacteria sensor unit. Her proof-of-concept work became a foundation for VeloCens™. As CTO, she leads research and development for future applications and the company’s consumables return program. Program arrangements are confirmed with each order and do not promise a specific recycling, reprocessing, or reuse outcome.

Amirreza Sohrabi
Co-founder & CEO

Amirreza Sohrabi

Amirreza earned his PhD in Materials Engineering from the University of Alberta, where he designed water-treatment technology for persistent contaminants. As CEO, he sets the company’s strategic direction and leads product development, field testing, operations, and finance. He co-founded Roshan Water in 2017 to help make actionable water information more accessible.

Future research

A direction for exploration—not a list of current claims.

Salmonella, Listeria, Legionella, food and beverage, and industrial-water applications are research directions. They are not current VeloCens capabilities, validated uses, or available products.

Roshan Water’s long-term vision includes investigating additional target organisms and applications, alongside ways practical testing may become more accessible to rural and remote communities.
